The Capitol Region Council of Governments (CRCOG) is the largest of Connecticut’s nine regional planning organizations and serves as the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Metro Hartford area. We are looking for candidates for the following position:

Senior or Principal Transportation Planner (P2 or P3)

Annual Salary Range: $56,118 – $74,617 (35 hours/week, full time), depending on qualifications

Summary of Position

CRCOG is seeking a qualified professional to perform a variety of transportation planning activities within the Transportation Department. The primary duties for the person selected for this position will be to assist with various transportation planning and transit initiatives and to support and/or oversee transportation projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assists with a broad range of Transportation Planning activities that could include safety planning, corridor study assistance and/or management, capital project advancement, grant programs, transit planning, and/or data collection and analysis. Assists in preparation of monthly and quarterly reports, website postings, and invoices. Other Transportation Planning tasks as assigned. The position will require collaboratively working with others.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of and experience in transportation planning and/or transit operations is required. Experience with federal transportation planning regulations; government operations; and project development and management is preferred. The position requires good oral and written communication skills; the ability to speak in public forums; proficiency with word-processing and spreadsheets; the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and use good judgment in prioritizing work assignments; and effectiveness under pressure of variable time constraints and deadlines.  Candidates should have the ability to establish and maintain highly effective working relationships with directors and staff, committee members, elected and appointed officials, consultants, members of the public, and others encountered in the course of work.

Minimum Training and Experience

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and three years (Senior Planner) or five years (Principal Planner) of increasingly responsible experience in transportation planning or a combination of training and work experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform the duties.

Licenses and Certifications

May need a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting.
