| Route 195 Corridor Study |
|
| Project Overview: |
| The Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT) and Capitol Region Council of Governments (CRCOG) have initiated a study to identify the transportation needs and define near and long-term improvements along Route 195 in the Town of Tolland. The study will focus on two items (1) components that define the roadway system, the transit system and pedestrian/bicycle mobility and safety, and (2) the growth potential and impacts to area roadways from undevevloped and underutilized properties along Route 195. |
 |
CRCOG is managing the overall study with technical assistance being provided by the consultant, Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc. (VHB). A local Advisory Committee has been appointed by the Tolland Town Council in an effort to guide the study and provide local input into the process. Meetings with the Advisory Committee are held every 4 to 6 weeks. Three public informational meetings to present our findings and solicit comments will be held throughout the study and information will be posted on this web site.
The study is expected to be complete in early 2009. The final plan will consist of corridor recommendations that reflect the towns comments, the publics comments and an endorsement by the Town Council. The recommendations will have solid engineering principals behind them however actual construction drawings would still have to be advanced separate from this corridor study process.
We’re excited to be working within your community and welcome your input into this process!

Public involvement and stakeholder input are key components to the successful advancement of our corridor studies. The first public meeting to inform residents of Tolland about the preliminary existing conditions findings and discuss their thoughts and concerns was held on March 5th. The 33 public attendees were able to walk through a display of maps and boards explaining existing transportation and land use conditions as well as participate in a series of exercises geared toward seeking their input. Residents and interested parties were also invited to a workshop, held April 24th, to discuss potential improvements within the Town Green area. Attendees were first briefed on transportation engineering principals and traffic calming "tools" and then asked to come up with their own ideas for future improvements.
The next public meeting is scheduled for:
