Traffic Calming

DEFINITION: Traffic Calming is a set of strategies and roadway treatments used by planners and engineers to reduce traffic speeds in an effort to ultimately increase safety for non-motorized uses of the street, enhance street and surrounding environments, reduce frequency of vehicle severity of collisions, reduce need for police enforcement, increase access for all modes, and reduce cut-through motor vehicle travel.

Design Elements
