Making a difference, CRCOG’S MetroHartford Brownfields Assessment & RLF Remediation Programs

When CRCOG first received EPA grant funding and a DECD Assessment grant in 2004 to develop the MetroHartford Brownfields Assessment program, there were 29 towns in the CRCOG region. Since then, CRCOG has provided funding for assessment on nearly 100 sites in the 38-town CRCOG region, including providing funds for significant redevelopments like the Goodwin University campus. CRCOG also prepared a targeted inventory of sites in the CTfastrak and CTrail corridors, including 245 potential and known brownfield sites.

In 2014, CRCOG received $950,000 to establish our Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) program to provide loans and subgrants to clean up sites that have been assessed to prepare for redevelopment. Municipalities are eligible to apply for subgrants that do not have to be paid back, and property owners who are not responsible for the contamination may apply for loans. Eligible borrowers can receive low-to-no-interest loans with flexible terms. Applications for both Assessment and the RLF are available on CRCOG’s website.
